If an exact colour match is required, then please request a sample before placing your order. Once you receive your sample, keep in mind that all samples may still have minimal colour variations as stated by the manufacturers.
In addition to the above considerations regarding colour, we'd like to suggest that you order all of your blinds of a given colour at one time. There are sometimes slight variations between dye lots. |

Resizing Ready Made Blinds
Cut to Size Service
A ready made blind is an imported pre-made, pre-packaged blind.
Available in many colours and materials.
At Blinds-Australia we stock standard sizes as shown on each ready made product page.
Due to the many window/door sizes in Australian homes and offices a ready made blind will often need to
be trimmed.
To ensure a perfect fit and to add longevity we suggest you have your ready made blinds cut to size by the
professional team at Blinds-Australia.
This feature is a part of ordering your blinds online and is charged at $25.00 per width and $25.00 per drop,
if required.
What happens to my blind when it is resized?
Your blind is taken from our inventory.
It is then carefully taken out of its packaging and trimmed to suit your window measurement; this is
the stage we make the necessary deductions to ensure your blind is custom made to suit your exact
window measurements.
We include the necessary deductions needed for clearance. You do not need to make these deductions
when ordering.
Apart from being professionally trimmed your blind will also be spray sealed at the end of every slat. This
procedure adds a protective coating.
Your blind is then placed back into its original packaging, including all hardware, ready to be
despatched.

| Timber blinds overview |
Timber blinds bring a rich, warm look and natural beauty to any room. Like wood shutters, they enhance a room with their fine, furniture-like quality, but they're less expensive than shutters. Timber blinds are versatile, too. They can be painted or stained to complement your décor. They're ideal for family rooms, dens, living rooms, dining rooms and bedrooms.
Besides looking great, timber blinds are an excellent way to manage light. You can angle the slats to direct light straight into a room, bounce light off the ceiling or reflect it back outside. Or you can darken a room by closing timber blinds to block light. Timber blinds also offer a high degree of privacy, and they help insulate your room for greater energy efficiency.
At Blinds-Australia, you'll find a wide selection of painted and stained blinds, including the distinctive look of knotty pine, cherry or other timber species. Our timber blinds come with a 65mm pelmet or valance and your choice of 45mm - 50mm slats to fit any window size or style. Custom widths are also available. |

| Basswood timber and why use basswood for timber blinds? |
Back to top |
Tilia Americana
Other Names: Linden
Manufactured in quality plantation the basswood timber blind is available in 50mm slat with a variety of warm timber stains and painted finishes. The versatility of this blind has great appeal. The timber finish allows you to coordinate it with your existing timber furniture or window frames, while the painted cream and white finishes will suit any contemporary or classic interior.
The ease of the adjustable slats provides instant privacy or the desired amount of light, whichever you choose for your room.
Strength and Mechanical Properties
The name comes from its inner bark, or bast, used by Native Americans to make rope.
Where it Grows
Principally the Northern and Lake states. Average tree height is 20 metres.
Main Uses
Carvings, turnings, furniture, pattern-making, mouldings, millwork and musical
instruments.
Relative Abundance
Together, aspen, basswood, cottonwood, elm, gum, hackberry, sassafras, sycamore
and willow represent 12.5 percent of commercially available hardwoods.
Did You Know?
Native Americans also used basswood’s inner bark fibres to make thread and fabric.
General Description
The sapwood of basswood is usually quite large and creamy white in colour, merging
into the heartwood which is pale to reddish brown, sometimes with darker streaks. The
wood has a fine uniform texture and indistinct grain that is straight.
Working Properties
Basswood machines well and is easy to work with hand tools making it a premier
carving wood. It nails, screws and glues fairly well and can be sanded and stained to a
good smooth finish. It dries fairly rapidly with little distortion or degrade. It has fairly high
shrinkage but good dimensional stability when dry.
Physical Properties
The wood is light and soft with generally low strength properties and a poor steam-
bending classification.

| Bamboo and ready made blinds? |
Bamboo is one of the most useful and versatile plants in the world.
A member of the grass family, it is best known for its use as a construction material.
Bamboo forms a very hard wood, especially when seasoned, and is light and
exceptionally tough. |

| Ecowood Venetian Blinds? |
Ready made Ecowood venetian blinds are a fashionable, yet economical alternative to timber. Ecowood brings the look of timber venetians within everyone's reach.
The Ecowood blind is made from a Hi-tech synthetic base material. This venetian blind offers the same versatility as timber blinds, with the added advantage of being ideal for areas of high humidity or moisture, such as saunas, bathrooms and laundry’s. In addition, areas of high salt content are the ideal location for Ecowood blinds.
Ecowood blinds do not fade, split, warp, peel, splinter, expand or contract and are easy to care for only requiring an occasional wipe with a damp cloth. Ecowood blinds retain their colour and texture for as long as you own them. |
| |
| What is western red cedar and why is it used for the manufacturing of blinds? |
Back to top |
Western Red Cedar has excellent dimensional stability making it the ideal timber for blinds.
Western Red Cedar blinds allow for excellent airflow into and throughout your rooms. They are an attractive and practical window treatment that enhance the look and feel of your home or building. Blinds that are made from Western Red Cedar are durable, long-lasting and resistant to weather and warping. Due to its superior performance characteristics, Cedar blinds can be produced thinner than other timber blinds, offering greater visibility and a neater appearance when retracted.
Natural Beauty
The colour variation of the grain is one of Western Red Cedar’s most distinguishing features and makes it highly sought after as a material for products such as blinds. The fusion of honey-beige to deep browns and reds within a single piece of Cedar, is what makes this wood dramatic and unique. Cedar’s warm colouring is complimented by a uniform, fine-grained texture with a satin lustre and knot-free appearance.
Dimensional Stability
Western Red Cedar has excellent dimensional stability making it the ideal timber for blinds. It has low wood density and the lowest shrinkage factor of all major softwoods. A major contributor to this stability is the fact that its moisture content at the fibre saturation point is 18 to 23%, compared to 25 to 30% in most softwoods. As a result, Western Red Cedar shrinks and swells minimally, displaying only small movements with changes in humidity.
Resistance to Decay
Western Red Cedar heartwood is renowned for its high decay-resistance. This natural durability is attributed to the presence of extractives, mainly the thujaplicins, and to a lesser extent, the water-soluble phenolics which are toxic to a number of wood rotting fungi. Western Red Cedar has the highest durability class rating of all softwoods.
Finishing
The lack of pitch or resinous extractives that are soluble in paint vehicles contributes to Western Red Cedar’s good finishing properties. The wood takes a variety of finishes such as lacquer, varnish and paint exceptionally well. Even when choosing a solid colour finish, Western Red Cedar is still the timber of choice for blinds because of its unsurpassed performance characteristics.
Workability and Performance
Western Red Cedar is among the easiest timber to work with because of its straight grain and uniform texture. Its low density makes it lightweight and ideally suited for applications such as blinds. Cedar also glues well with a wide range of adhesives and gluing conditions. Western Red Cedar blinds create a warm and welcoming atmosphere in any home, office or commercial building. They help maintain a comfortable environment by allowing you to control the light and ventilation as well as privacy. With Cedar’s own individual pattern, grain and natural colour variation, each blade has a unique beauty and character. |

| Lacquer? |
In a general sense, lacquer is a clear or coloured coating, that dries by solvent evaporation only and that produces a hard, durable finish that can be polished to a very high gloss, and gives the illusion of depth. In a narrower sense, lacquer consists of a resin dissolved in a fast-drying solvent which is a mixture of naphtha, xylene, toluene and ketones, including acetone.
The word "lacquer" comes from the lac insect (Laccifer lacca, formerly Coccus lacca), whose secretions have been historically used to make lacquer and shellac. It is used to coat automobiles, furniture, textiles, paper and metalware. The lacquer formula may be varied to impart durability, hardness, gloss or imperviousness to water.
Lacquer work was one of the earliest industrial arts of Asia. It was highly developed in India; the Chinese inlaid lacquer work with ivory, jade, coral or abalone and were unrivaled in making articles carved from it. The art spread to Korea then to Japan, where it took new forms, notably gold lacquer work. |

| Polyester? |
Polyester is a category of polymers or, more specifically condensation polymers, which contain the ester functional group in their main chain. polyester generally refers to the large family of synthetic polyesters (plastics) which includes polycarbonate and above all polyethylene terephthalate (PET). PET is one of the most important thermoplastic polyesters.
Polyester has excellent duability, abrasion resistance, tenacity and high elongation. The fibre also has high appearance retention, dimensional stability, elastic recovery and excellent resiliency. It remains very strong when it is wet.
Polyester Fibre Characteristics:
Strong
Easily washed
Mildew resistant
Wrinkle resistant
Abrasion resistant
Resistant to most chemicals
Crisp and resilient when wet or dry
Resistant to stretching and shrinking |

| Teflon? |
| Teflon has been a familiar name for decades. Invented at Dupont's Jackson Laboratory in 1938, Teflon is actually a substance called polytetrafluoroethylene (PTFE), which is considered to be the most slippery substance that exists. Teflon is a stain resistant, water repellent finish applied to textiles. This treatment gives the fabric a protective coating (without affecting any of the fabric's inherent properties). |
